It was natural that American poets would be strongly influenced by reportage.  American society was focused on now.  American citizens were attuned by their constitution to follow public events.  As innovators and opportunists, Americans wanted to know what’s new.  Newspapers offered the most plentiful jobs to writers.  Like other writers, many poets made their living through newspapers.
